US South Pacific Scholarship Program 2020/2021

The U.S. South Pacific Scholarship Program (USSP), authorized by the U.S. Congress and funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program that provides opportunities for Master’s and Bachelor’s degree study at the University of Hawai‘i in fields that are directly relevant to the development needs of Pacific island countries.

The scholarship program will include a mentoring component with a possible follow-on summer internship, and readily accessible opportunities for participation in host family and volunteer service programs.  Candidates from the following countries, who meet specific selection criteria, are eligible for the program.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria: Candidates are expected to posses the following eligibility criteria for the U.S. South Pacific Scholarship Program 2020/2021;

  • Applicants must be domestic or international students.
  • Students admitted into Undergraduate and Masters degree program.

Eligible Courses: Priority areas of study include agriculture, business, communication/journalism, education, environmental studies, gender studies, NGO management, political science, public administration, public health, STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), and other related fields.

  • The award is available for Undergraduate and Masters in priority courses offered at the University.
  • Based on academic merit
  • Students enrolling full time in the Honours program in the semester for which the scholarship is awarded.
  • Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)
  • A high school transcript and/or GSE results (if your transcript is not in English, also require a certified translation)
  • Applicants must have a High school certificate or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be highly motivated, responsible, and able to work independently in a structured manner and as good interpersonal and communication skill.
  • Applicants must hold an offer for a full-time program at East West Center, USA
  • Application process based on merit and evidence of leadership.
  • English Language Requirement: Applicants are required to provide evidence of meeting the East West Center’s minimum English language proficiency requirements.

In addition to submitting an ADB-JSP scholarship application to the East-West Center, a separate application (including all required supporting documents) must be submitted to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa for admission into a Master’s degree program.

Information on applying for most eligible Master’s programs listed above can be found at the UHM Graduate Division website:  http://manoa.hawaii.edu/graduate. However, do not use this website for the field of Business. If you are seeking admission to a Master’s program in this area of study, use the Global MBA Business Program. Application forms for this field must be obtained from the respective program.
