The University of Nottingham in China is inviting applications for the PhD Scholarship in Physical Geography for International students in the 2020/21 academic session.
The above scholarship is to support research projects outlined under the following themes:
Reconstruction of glaciations using geomorphic mapping and numeric modelling
One of the key issue inhibiting the understanding of quaternary glaciations in the Tibetan Plateau is the lack of detailed knowledge of paleo glacier extent. The proposed project aims to develop an approach to combine geomorphic mapping and simplified numeric modelling for regional reconstruction of glacier extent and ice thickness distribution. The approach will be applied to the glaciation reconstruction in the Hengduan Mountain, where has been significantly glaciated during the Quaternary. The results will largely improve our understanding of the glaciation pattern and paleo climate of the area and allow a correlation of local glaciation with other regions. Candidates are required to have a background in earth science or relevant field. Experiences in modelling or programming will be a plus.
PhD programmes at the UNNC are composed of 3 years research and submission are expected within 3 years for full-time students. PhD supervision is undertaken jointly by academics from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and University of Nottingham UK (UNUK).
On successful completion, students will be awarded University of Nottingham PhD degree, and no reference will be made on the degree certificate as to where the degree has been completed. University of Nottingham PhD degree will be accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
